You gain proficiency in a recipe whenever you manually craft it. A higher proficiency gives a higher chance of getting a perfect craft.
Once you reach a certain level of proficiency (default 256) in a recipe, you can assign a Chef Android that recipe to cook, then put it in an Electric Kitchen to cook it.
